HP Engineering performed an inspection on Hummel Bridge on May 22, 2024 and this has resulted in the recommendation to close the bridge to all vehicular traffic.
As a result of this recommendation and in the interest of public safety, the Hummel Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic effective Friday, May 31, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.
Councils of the Township of Nipissing and the Municipality of Powassan continue to lobby for funding assistance for the necessary repairs to the bridge from the Provincial and Federal governments. Once funding is secured, work will be tendered out for the required construction.
Both Councils are aware and understand the impact this closure will have on residents and continue to work towards a resolution to the issue.
An Automatic Aid Agreement for fire protection will be put in place to ensure continued fire protection response to your property in a timely manner. This will be provided by the Municipality of Powassan Fire Department. The Ontario Provincial Police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) offices have been notified of this also and will plan any required responses accordingly.
