The next Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022.
Key Dates
Nomination Period: May 2, 2022 to August 19, 2022
Between May 2, 2022 to August 18, 2022, nomination papers can be filed during regular municipal office hours
Nomination Day: August 19, 2022
On Nomination Day, nomination papers can be filed between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The last Municipal & School Board Election was held on October 22, 2018 and under the Municipal Elections Act, the four-year term of office for the current council and school board trustees began December 1, 2018, and will end November 14, 2022.
If you plan on running for Municipal office we have put together the following information:
- Candidate must be a resident of the municipality or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant;
- a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old;
- not legally prohibited from voting; and not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.
The endorsement signatures requirement does not apply to the Municipality of Powassan, as we do not have more than 4000 electors.
In municipal elections in Ontario, candidates are not elected to represent a political party.
